Match Date: 14 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Commerzbank-Arena

Two matches have passed and Augsburg is still winless. The club is already on at the rock bottom pit of Germany’s top-flight league and is at risk of being a strong relegation candidate. As other clubs continue to accumulate points, the competition becomes more intense than ever. Augsburg needs to make a move now before it is too late.

As for Frankfurt, indeed, it is true that the squad is far from the relegation zone, but they too, cannot afford a mediocre performance as it only takes a matter of days before they let go or retain their current positions in the Bundesliga table.

The contenders

Eintracht Frankfurt

Frankfurt readily made an impression when it defeated Freiburg during the season’s opening. Gaining 3 crucial points, a confident squad visited the realms of Wolfsburg. However, their efforts fell short as the Wolves forced them to settle for a stalemate.

On a closer look, a draw is still acceptable since it yields a point. The bigger issue is how the club will fare and cope with Nelson Valdez’s absence. The Paraguayan striker incurred a knee injury that will sideline him for quite some time.

Augsburg

It is not only the 2 consecutive losses that have been bugging Augsburg. The first 2 weeks of the season have already witnessed them concede 5 goals, which could cause them more problems in the future.

It seemed that the number of goals they concede each match increases. Hoffenheim thrashed them with 2 goals and just recently, Borussia Dortmund gave them a  3-goal beating.

Possible head turners

Makoto Hasebe’s strong defence wall is one of the reasons behind Frankfurt’s current success and he is expected to perform even more now that one of their scoring machines is sidelined. Under this context, Haris Seferovic should rise up to the challenge and collect points for Frankfurt.
