Bundesliga Preview: Eintracht Braunschweig vs. Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen

It’s been more than 28 years since Eintracht Braunschweig and Werder Bremen had their last Bundesliga tourney, which was ultimately won by The River Islanders 0-2. In the opening of the new Bundesliga season, the sides will once again compete and strive to win the trophy after a substantially long interval. The match will be held on August 11 at the Eintracht-Stadion.

Having been promoted to play for Bundesliga I, Braunschweig is both bound to a new milestone and pressured for a series of more rigorous matches than what they had in Bundesliga II. Torsten Lieberknecht’s men may have displayed fairly impressive maneuvers in their recent matches but they nonetheless managed to raise their bar by one notch. During the Club Friendlies, The Lions overthrew Rizespor 1-0 as well as Wolfsburg 1-2. They, however, were beaten by Athletic Club in a painful score of 0-4 and by Hamburger on penalties.

Bremen’s Club Friendlies scoreboard, meanwhile, appears quite unkind and lackluster. Instead of achieving landslide wins, the Robin Dutt-led side clinched successive defeats with only one draw to cap their record. RB Leipzig, Ajax, PEC Zwolle, and Osnabruck all waved victorious flags against Bremen, posting scores of 2-1, 2-3, 2-3, and 1-0, respectively. Their draw came in with 1860 Munchen 1-1. However, pointing toward their Bundesliga I merit, Bremen cannot be completely branded as a red zone underdog. It won in eight matches last season and earned a 34-point score, enough for it to be pinned at number 14 in the First Division overall tally.

Braunschweig is making a good comeback to Bundesliga I, leaving behind mediocre performances that pulled it back the past years. Bremen is not in its best shape right now, but could still project unexpected drills whenever triggered to do so. As per history, the latter has always been earning their spurs ahead of the former. The same fate can happen in the match, but a draw might also carry the day.
