Bayern Munchen- Lewandowski

Match Date: 23 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: Allianz Arena

Has Bayern lost its grit? This has been the pervading question within the Bavarian camp as the stellar squad stumbled into another even steven finish. With the scoreless stalemate against Hamburger SV, the defending champion failed to collect the necessary points to dominate the top-flight league.

On the other hand, SC Paderborn, via the virtue of goal difference exploited Bayern’s weakness to climb its way on top of the Bundesliga table. Indeed, what they achieved was a big surprise, but do they really have what it takes to outlast Bayern?

The contenders

Bayern Munich

From a seemingly invincible squad, which hardly experienced defeat, experiencing two (2) draws during the early weeks of the season is already a big blow to Bayern Munchen.

Though Bayern is not the only club to experience a slow start (just look at Paris Saint Germain), many has already questioned its ability to defend its title.

However, according to its head honcho, Pep Guardiola, Bayern’s (poor) performance is due to the players’ insufficient and limited time to prepare and recuperate after a tedious ordeal in the recent concluded World Cup. The Bavarian club was almost swept since many of its players were participant of the said tournament.

Adding more damage was the injuries incurred by many of its key players such as Frank Ribery and Holger Badstuber, to name a few. As a matter of fact, even Arjen Robben is doubtful in their upcoming match.

But despite the challenges that Bayern has to overcome. It remains as the match heavy online betting favorite with odds pegged at 1.12. Likewise, although, there have been criticisms on Robert Lewandowski’s seemingly lackluster performance, this could hardly limit the club’s scoring prowess since there is always Thomas Muller and Claudio Pizzarro to take the scoring responsibilities. The possibility of scoring at least 3 goals is high, thus making an over bet with odd pegged at 1.81, a profitable one.

SC Paderborn

The result of Paderborn’s 4 recent matches is similar to that of Bayern. They have also won and drew twice, except that they have a better goal difference.

However, goal difference alone cannot guarantee that the squad will be able to overcome the defending champion, although the club promised to fight tooth and nail in the upcoming match.

Possible head turners

Paderborn should watch out for Lewandowski. The former Borussia Dortmund striker is still on the verge of adjusting to the Bavarian’s playing style and with criticisms thrown against him, expect the scoring machine to return with a vengeance.
