Bundesliga Preview: Bayer Leverkusen vs. Werder Bremen

Updated: September 8, 2014
Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Hertha BSC - Bundesliga

Match Date: 12 September 2014 (local time)

Venue: BayArena

Still undefeated, Bayer Leverkusen is keen on continuing its winning streak. The club was impressive in its first 2 matches and waving the white flag against Werder Bremen is the last thing it wants to experience.
Speaking of Die Werderaner, the team is still seeking for its first win in the season. Two (2) of its matches ended in a draw and the lack of improvement may push them at the rock bottom pit of the table.

The contenders

Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer did an impressive demolition job against Hertha Berlin during their first encounter this season. The capital club endured a 4-2 thrashing, despite taking the lead in the early minutes of the match when Tim Jedvaj delivered an own goal.

However, Jedvaj was quick to recover. He scored the equalizer during the 2nd half and since then, Bayer became unstoppable. The squad took more shots and the genius Hakkan Calhanoglu devised crucial scoring opportunities that eventually gave them the upper-hand.

Unfortunately, Bayer will be playing without its team captain, Simon Rolfes, who incurred an injury during the Hertha Berlin face-off. Rolfes tore an ankle ligament that will sidelined him in several matches.

Werder Bremen

An aggressive scoring rally paved way for Werder Bremen to force Hoffeheim into a frustrating stalemate. The match finished with a 1-1 draw, much to the visitor’s disappointment.

But despite the draw, the result barely made an impact in the club’s rank. Since it only amounts to a single point, no significant movement can be seen from the Werder Bremen army.

Possible head turners

Alejandro Galvez got a booking during their match against Hoffenheim and could therefore slow him down in the scoring department. Nevertheless, considering how important this match is, one can only expect Galvez to stand out.

As for Bayer, the squad is spoilt for choice when it comes to scoring machines. The likes of Hakkan Calhanoglu,  Stefan Kießling, Heung-Min Son and Josip Drmic could make a difference in the club’s performance.

Online betting odds favor Bayer. It is valued to win at 1.29. In its encounter against Werder Bremen, expect it to clinch the upper-hand. The match ends in 2-1 in favor of Bayer.
