Werder Bremen und Schalke 04

Match Date: 05 April 2014 (local time)

Venue: Weserstadion

If there is one thing that best describes Schalke 04 this season, this is unstoppable. The club represents the classic example of a warrior that gets better with every defeat that it encounters.

Schalke almost hit the relegation zone at the onset of the season. The club was unable to adjust quickly to injury issues and arrival of new players. But its misery became even worse when it was forced to have an early exit in the Champions League. Evidently, it took some time before Jens Keller determined the perfect recipe for the squad’s success. Nevertheless, it was worth the wait. The club is now up for a stronger finish.

With the win against Hertha Berlin, the Royal Blues is just a point away from snatching the 2nd spot in the Bundesliga table. Sporting an undefeated 12 matches, the squad has the possibility of fulfilling such ambition when they face Werder Bremen.

Werder Bremen currently occupies the 12th spot of Germany’s top-flight league. At a glance, it appears to take the minnow’s role in the upcoming match. Yet, on a closer look, such notion is just a mere illusion.  Werder Bremen is actually a worthy opponent.

Schalke cannot simply ignore such strength, for it might stun them in the end. But just how good Werder Bremen is? Why do they threaten Schalke’s hope of being the second best club in Bundesliga?

Werder Bremen has only lost twice in their last 6 matches. Three (3) of them ended in a victory and the other one resulted in a draw. Technically speaking, Werder Bremen’s form is an impressive one and they will surely give Schalke a headache.

Other than its strong form, Werder’s home court advantage may also halt the Royal Blues’ planned attacks.

But despite the threat that Werder Bremen poses, Schalke remains unstoppable. If it was able to endure and survive storms during the season’s early stage, there is no reason for them to throw the white towel in the match.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is back to its scoring form and of course, there is always the threat from Julian Draxler. During those times where Schalke was experiencing a striker drought, it was Draxler who stood up to the challenge and took such responsibility. Likewise, the presence of new recruit, Kevin Prince Boateng has added more depth in the squad.
With such a lineup, Schalke can readily counter Werder Bremen’s attempts to prevent them from having a stronger finish. However, they need to be more cautious. For while it is true that the Royal Blues are the match’s online betting favorite, it cannot be denied that Werder Bremen is also a strong force to reckon with.

Prediction:  Schalke 04
