Can Hamburger SV survive this season? At a glance, such question is nothing but ordinary. Struggling  on the 16th spot of the table, perhaps many would ask the significance of Hamburger’s survival.

Indeed, there is no doubt that its current form is weak. However, what many do not know is that the Hamburger SV is the only squad that has managed to stay in the Bundesliga since 1963. What they have achieved is something that other squads find too difficult to emulate. While they have been caught in a series of moving in and out of Germany’s top-flight league, Hamburger SV has immediately found their rhythm since the above-mentioned year. It is this legacy that the squad wants to protect—a tradition that have to be protected.

The quest to continue such tradition has led to the sacking of Bert van Marwijk and Thorsten Fink. The responsibility is now passed on to Mirko Slomka who has a trophy to boast after saving Hannover from the dreaded zone.

But can the historic team endure the attacks of the equally aggressive Freiburg? Just like them, Freiburg also struggles to get out of the rock bottom pit and their attempt yielded positive results.  A surprise victory against Werder Bremen gives them the much needed confidence boost. Freiburg also serves as the match’s favorite in many sports betting sites. Likewise, it must be noted that they have been victorious in their last 3 away matches against Hamburger SV.

Considering the current situation, it is highly possible for Hamburger SV to force a draw against their opponents. It is better if they secure the needed 3 points. After all, it is still very far from the tock bottom part of the table. But in the event where all means and solutions have been made, perhaps the club should try to accept the end of their era, the demise of their tradition and the heartbreaking return to Germany’s second division.

Prediction: Freiburg
