Borussia Dortmund - FC Schalke 04

Match Date: 25 March 2014 (local time)

Venue: Signal-Iduna-PaRK

With Champions League and domestic league  issues to address, Jurgen Klopp’s managerial antics are once again, put into the test. The club’s head honcho will have to ensure that they get the edge when the meet Real Madrid and at the same time, secure a tight grip of the runner’s-up spot in Bundesliga.

The Borusians will enter the Revierderby against Schalke 04 with a comfortable win against Hannover 96. They might have lost to Zenit Petersburg at home, but their aggregate lead enabled them to advance to the latter stage of the Champions League tournament. Given such triumphant feats, these should be enough to inspire the Borussians to secure another win at Signal-Iduna. Apparently, they have the home court advantage, which, they can exploit against their local rivals to extend their lead.

However, the biggest question that Dortmund has to face is whether home court advantage is enough to help them secure 3 additional points.

Similar to Dortmund, Schalke 04 just came from a major win against Braunschweig. It was their 3rd consecutive victory after a humiliating 5-1 thrashing from Bayern Munchen. Schalke currently trails Dortmund by a point. Yet, unlike their nemesis, it has the luxury of rest for it is already spared from the cumbersome rituals of the Champions League. It seemed that their exit became a boon instead of a bane. But this is only within the context of the domestic league.

With fresh legs to boot and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s return to his scoring ways, the Royal Blues might just pull off an upset or a draw.

Prediction: Stalemate

While online bookies may point to Borussia Dortmund as favorite, it cannot be denied that Schalke is also one of the strongest forces that one has to reckon with. In 12BET, a draw is pegged at a decent value of 4.21
