Braunschweig vs. Schalke 04 Preview: Schalke’s Huntelaar, Sidelined Again

Updated: October 16, 2013

Match Date: 19 October 2013 (local time)

Venue: Eintracht Stadion

The expected return of Klas Jan Huntelaar into the pitch was halted when the young player’s right knee injury recurred. Can Schalke overcome this test? Or will they join Braunschweig in the relegation territory?

Team Form

Torsten Lieberknecht’s display of strong emotion and disappointment must have awakened Braunschweig’s senses as the club stunned Wolfsburg with a 2-0 victory. Keeping their spirits alive, the club looks forward to securing another win against Schalke 04.
After a severe thrashing by Stuttgart,  Lieberknecht cannot help but express his concerns and disappointment regarding Braunschweig’s helpless form. But instead of harboring self-pity and relying to fate, the club secured their first victory in the season when they meet the heavy favorites, Wolfsburg.

Much to the surprise of many, the Lions made a loud roar in the pitch when they kept their opponent at bay. Despite dominating possession, it was Braunschweig’s Karim Bellarabi and Domi Kumbela, who stood up to the challenge and defied the odds.

Although they snatched a victory, Braunschweig remains at the bottom of the relegation zone with 6 losses, a draw and a victory. Nevertheless, with the  intensity they showed during their most recent match, Braunschweig’s road to survival has just begun.

Schalke 04

The Royal Blues just made a major comeback into the Bundesliga ranking. After spending quite some time in the relegation zone, the club has managed to return in the league’s top 10. But perhaps such victory or accomplishment is short-lived as the expected return of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar might require more time than what is planned. For the second time, the young player injured his right knee. This was the same injury that sidelined him during the first major matches in Bundesliga

News of Huntelaar’s injury might affect the club’s performance. This is despite securing a major win against Augsburg.

After a slow start, the club was able to overcome all of its struggles and now finds itself sitting comfortably on the table’s 8th spot. To note, the club has already won thrice, lost thrice and drew twice.

Football betting tip: Braunschweig 0-2 Schalke

Schalke’s recent success manifests its high ability to adjust. Indeed, Huntelaar’s injury threatens the club, but not to the extent of seeing themselves fighting for survival. Huntelaar has been sidelined for quite some time now and it looked like Jens Keller has already found the perfect the squad’s perfect combination. Moreover, given their experience and team form, going against Braunschweig  hardly worries them.
