Bayern—Heavy Favorites In Audi Cup

Updated: July 29, 2013
Philipp Lahm

Bayern Munchen’s head honcho, Pep Guardiola is back on the limelight again as the squad enters one of its most celebrated friendlies, the Audi Cup. Going against the historic German treble holder is one of Brazil’s most successful clubs, Sao Paulo.
Although, this has no bearing with the teams’ performance, supporters and online bookies alike look forward to more of “Pep’s surprises.” They stand as the heavy favorites of this match, thus, the (overwhelming) attention is rather, expected.
Of beating Barḉa
Just recently, Pep had a face-off against its former club, Barcelona. The encounter was quite a repetition of the Champions League match wherein the Bavarians clinched a 2-0 victory.
Nevertheless, aside from the win, what really caught attention was Philip Lahm, playing at the center alongside with Toni Kroos and Thiago Alcantara. The squad’s captain was used to play at the back together with Boateng, Dante and Alaba, If this can be labeled as one of Guardiola’s (experiments,), it was a successful one. Lahm scored the match’s first goal and the rest was history.
Losing to Dortmund
After a sweet triumph to Barcelona, the Bavarians bowed down to its nemesis, Borussia Dortmund. The trophy remained at the Borussian side, with Marco Reus rising as the squad’s hero.
The Borussians have been very efficient in converting opportunities coming from the midfield.
Facing the Soberano
The Soberanos is one of the most successful clubs in Brazil. Recognized for their aggressive approach that often leads to converted steals, they will surely put pressure on the Bavarians.
Guardiola and his squad may be the favorite, but they for sure, the 6-time title league holder shall not be easy on them.
Mario Goetze, one of Bayern’s new recruits has not seen too much action on the pitch. There is no doubt that he is one of Pep’s hidden weapons against Sao Paulo. Dubbed as the German “Messi,” his presence can trigger a scoring rampage from the Bavarian that will eventually lead them to the Audi silverware.
