Team Form

Athletic Bilbao

After triumphantly running away from a “not so easy” match against Osassuna, Athletic Bilbao is up for another challenging encounter as they are set to meet Real Madrid (Los Blancos).

Despite an impressive demolition job against Ossasuna in which, they scored five (5) goals, the club’s head honcho declared that it was never an “easy” match and that they were just a “little better.” Nevertheless, this does not necessarily mean that Valverde was unhappy of the result. He stressed that such victories are essential in terms of increasing their confidence most especially if more difficult matches come along their way.

Athletic Bilbao is almost assured of a spot in the Champions League qualifier, given their strong form. Accumulating forty-two (42) points, the club sits on the 4th spot of the La Liga table. They have only lost once in their last six (6) matches and keep a record of winning its last five (5) home matches.

Real Madrid

It is still uncertain if Gareth Bale can make it to San Mames after suffering a leg discomfort.

Real Madrid’s top brass, Carlos Ancelotti confirmed that Bale shall be taking a rest during the Espanyol faceoff in Copa Del Rey. However, he is also hopeful that the rest will help Bale recover and make it to the Athletic Bilbao battle.

Ancelotti’s decision to give Bale a rest is a crucial one. Real Madrid trails Barcelona and Atletico Madrid with just a single point and they cannot afford to lose a single match if they still want to continue their title campaign this season. Ancelotti is also aware that Athletic Bilbao is a strong opponent and is very much capable of generating an upset, thus, making his decision with Bale, even more justifiable.

Real Madrid has already accumulated fifty-three (53) points this season. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both have fifty-four (54). Ancelotti and his men must keep the pressure to these two clubs via securing victories in order for them to maintain their title bid.

Online betting’s top pick:  A stalemate

Real Madrid has been successful in ten (10) of its eleven (11) matches in La Liga. Indeed, they are strong, but Athletic Bilbao’s impressive performance at home cannot be totally disregarded. Expect a nail-biting match characterized with the possibility of Real Madrid taking over the top spot in the league or Athletic Bilbao forcing a draw or an unexpected upset.
