Bayern Munchen

Arsenal tries to avoid history as they confront the online betting favorite, Bayern Munchen in the Champions League knockout stage. Franck Ribery is set to miss out the match and the Gunners will readily take advantage of this season. But the biggest question is, do they have enough strength and skill to counter the best club in the world?

Match Date: 18 February 2014 (local time)
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Team Form

History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce. Such scenario is what Arsenal tries to avoid when they meet Bayern Munchen, for the second time in the Champions League knockout stage.

Last season, Arsenal had the chance to take the lead against the German giant. Unfortunately, they failed to capitalize after the Bavarians ended the match with a 3-1 victory. The second leg was valiantly fought in the Allianz Arena as they were able to keep Bayern at bay. They won the encounter. But by virtue of aggregate scoring, they were unable to advance in the next stage of the competition.

The Gunner’s current form is under fire, following their sudden slip in the Premier League table. Liverpool’s 5-1 thrashing took a heavy toll on them and even compromised their title campaign as strong contender, Chelsea took over of the leaderboard. With their morale slowly hitting the rock bottom pit, there are doubts if the Gunners can fire up an exciting match at Emirates Stadium.

With the absence of Theo Walcott and the seemingly lackluster performance of Mesut Ozil, it seemed that history is indeed, bound to repeat itself.

Bayern Munchen

The Bavarian squad shall miss the presence of Ballon d’Or nominee, Franck Ribery due to a minor operation.

Ribery, who is one of the club’s consistent key players has just recovered from an injury. But it looks like he is back to the rehabilitation room after injuring a blood vessel in his buttock. His absence gives the Gunners an opportunity to dethrone the current Champions League champ, but given the depth of the Bavarian’s squad, it will be a difficult feat for Arsenal.

Bayern Munchen finished on top of its group in the Champions League, A better goal difference separated them with another contender, Manchester City.

In the domestic league, the Bavarian remains unbeaten and eyes to continue its winning streak.

Prediction: Bayern Munchen

As mentioned, even without Ribery, Bayern can afford to face a great clash. Again, the depth and quality of this club is beyond measure and of course, they will not waste the opportunity of getting a back-to-back treble this season.
