Manchester United gain victory in game’s last minutes

Juventus and Bayern Munich proved that they are in top form for European competition as they won their UEFA Champions League group-stage games with overwhelming scores on Wednesday, while British Isles sides Manchester United, Chelsea and Celtic look set to book their places in the tournament’s Round of 16.

Group E: Chelsea Exact Home Revenge on Shakhtar Donetsk, Juventus Hammer Goals on Nordsjaelland

Chelsea overturned their previous Champions League result against Ukrainian visitors Shakhtar Donetsk through a 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge. Fernando Torres and Oscar initially equalized with Willian’s brace, until Victor Moses’ 90th-minute goal lifted the Blues to a successful game.

Juventus drilled Nordsjaelland in Turin through a 4-0 routing, effectively exposing the Danish champions’ inexperience in European competition. Goals from Claudio Marchisio, Arturo Vidal, Sebastian Giovinco and Fabio Quagliarella breathed new life on the Bianconeri’s qualification bid.

Group F: Bayern Munich Push Bottom-Table Lille to Early Exit, Valencia Surge Past BATE Borisov

Bayern Munich showed exceptional form at home, as they beat a dreary Lille side 6-1. Bastian Schweinsteiger opened scoring on the fifth minute, followed by a rapid hat-trick from Claudio Pizarro made within 15 minutes and a goal from Arjen Robben. Salomon Kalou scored the French side’s lone goal during the second half, but Toni Kroos added to the visitors’ hopelessness through a 66th-minute effort.

Valencia overpowered visiting Belarusians BATE Borisov 4-2 at home, enabling them to climb to second place on the group table. Jonas and Roberto Soldado both scored for the Spanish side alongside a brace from Sofiane Feghouli. Renan Bressan and Dzmitry Mozolevski each scored Borisov’s second-half goals.

Group G: Celtic Surprise Winners over Barcelona, Benfica Defeat Struggling Spartak Moscow

Celtic’s Victor Wanyama and Tony Watt left giants Barcelona trailing throughout their 2-1 victory at home. Lionel Messi sought redemption for the Catalans, but his goal proved inadequate for their target victory.

Benfica had a star in Oscar Cardozo as the Paraguayan striker pushed the Portuguese outfit to home victory over Spartak Moscow 2-0.

Group H: Braga Bow Down To Manchester United, CFR Cluj Lose To Galatasaray

Braga failed to secure success at home against Manchester United, as their English opposition dealt a 1-3 defeat on them. Alan scored the game’s first goal for the Portuguese hosts. Three goals from United striker triad Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez ensured victory for the visitors.

Turkish champions Galatasaray hold on to second place in the group table after beating Romanian league titleholders and hosts CFR Cluj 3-1. Burak Yilmaz served as the visitors’ star talisman through his hat-trick. Modou Sougou scored Cluj’s only goal.
