Elche had a very difficult La Liga campaign last season. They were twice buried in the relegation zone and made it to the top 10 only once. They finished the tournament with a very embarrassing goal difference of -20, having scored only 30 goals and conceded 50. However, their performance also deserves some credits as they were newly promoted to the top-tier tournament at the time. They may have struggled acclimatizing with the competition despite the fact that it was already their 20th non-consecutive appearance in the Primera Division.

For the entire season, Richmond Boakye and Coro produced the most goals for Los Franjiverdes, scoring six and five goals, respectively. The numbers, however, are far from the competition’s top players. Best scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid scored 31 goals while Barcelona’s Pedro and Sevilla’s Kevin Gameiro—who were both the ninth best scorers alongside Bale and Guerra—netted 15.

Fran Escriba’s players kicked off their campaign with a disastrous 3-0 defeat from Rayo Vallecano, which inevitably put them near the foot of the league table. This was later followed by three successive draws with Real Sociedad, Almeria, and Real Valladolid before incurring back-to-back downfalls from Osasuna and Real Madrid. From weeks seven through nine, however, the side obtained three victories in a row, thumping their rivals such as Celta Vigo, Espanyol, and Real Betis.

Overall, the squad were very inconsistent, sometimes delivering good results and at other times, incurring embarrassing finishes. They ended their season campaign with all three possible outcomes: a victory over Malaga, a draw with sports betting frontrunners Barcalona, and a loss from Sevilla.
