Spain’s downfall in the World Cup should not be confused with how it will fare in the leagues. Domestic clubs have long been UEFA’s most efficient and the Spanish La Liga consistently ranks high among the world’s best. With this said, the upcoming football season will remain as robust as it should be. Here are some bits to spice up the top-flight tournament:

  • Javier Hernandez and Shinji Kagawa of Manchester United have been under the radar of Atletico Madrid for a sizable amount of time but their attempt to sign the players is being hindered by a possible exchange for the prolific Arda Turan. The Turkish international has scored nine goals in all competitions last season and Atletico cannot afford to lose another quality player following the exits of Diego Costa, Filipe Luis, and Thibaut Courtois.
  • Angel Di Maria has made up his mind, and he is now set to leave Real Madrid for French champions, PSG. The Argentinian midfielder scored one of Argentina’s goals in the recent World Cup and has played vital role in Real’s success in the UEFA Champions League.
  • Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen is wanted by Barcelona, and the Spanish side are willing to submit a €10-million bid just to acquire the footballer from Arsenal. The former Ajax player spent the last 18 months on the bench as Arsene Wenger has chosen other players over him to play on the pitch. With Barca possibly putting him in the first 11, Vermaelen may actually accept the offer.
  • Athletic Bilbao, meanwhile, are reportedly targeting to sign Arsenal duo Mikel Arteta and Nacho Monreal. Especially in Arteta, the Spanish club see a plausible and experienced replacement for Ander Hererra who moved to Manchester United last June.
