La Liga Team Review: Getafe

Updated: July 30, 2014

After debuting into the top 10 during the 2012/2013 season, Getafe’s recent feat in Primera Division witnessed them drop three (3) notches. The squad almost hit the table’s rock bottom pit if not for a successful late rally.

Getafe’s problems made an early debut when it lost its first match during the 2013/2014 season. They lost to Real Sociedad and instead of fully recovering, the best they can come up with was a draw against Almeria.

Survival became a heavier burden when the team suffered a long winless streak. The series of unfortunate event started at the onset of the winter break and lasted until March. At that time, Getafe has been subjected to a 15-match losing rampage.

One of the reasons behind the team’s lackluster performance was having a weak defense and attack. Majority of their previous matches resulted to a clean sheet. The wins rarely came and the squad can only thrive through draws.
Acquiring a reliable striker this summer will be one of the best solutions they can enforce this season.

Match to remember

Getafe was one of the culprits behind Barcelona’s failed title attempt. Pitted against the online betting favorite, Getafe forced a draw, which denied the defending champion to protect their crown against strong contenders such as Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Match to forget

Suffering a 7-0 thrashing from Atletico Madrid is one of the worst matches that Getafe endured during the recently concluded season.

The scene-stealers

Sergio Escudero’s total goals may not be that much, but it is because of the defender’s abilities that Getafe has managed to escape relegation.
