The La Liga saga just unfolded and many sides have the reason to either cry or hold their heads high. On August 25 at the Camp El Madrigal, two squads will vie for the sought-after trophy. Home Villarreal are slated to continue their Spanish top-tier football journey with an exciting match with away side Real Valladolid. This will be both side’s second stint in the tournament this term and their first meeting as rivals since the 2009-10 La Liga.

Villarreal kicked off their La Liga campaign this season with a riveting dominance over their opponents. Giovani dos Santos scored a late equalizer to put his side in the winners’ wing after coming from behind to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory at another promoted club, Almeria. The new signing made his impressive debut for Villarreal by burying a low cross in the 83rd minute. Prior to this match, Villarreal had mixed performances in their last four pre-season friendlies, posting defeats and wins on equal numbers. Nevertheless, the side proved their aptitude in the top-level Spanish football and emerging as one of—if not—the frontrunners by the end of the season is a warm possibility.

Valladolid, meanwhile, suffered a defeat 1-2 from Athletic Bilbao’s pounding in the tournament’s opening—an inhospitable start for a season debut. Markel Susaeta kicked off the scoring for Athletic in the 28th minute, but Valladolid found an equalizer just three minutes right after. After the break, Athletic regained the lead through a goal by Iker Muniain, thus ending the match with Valladolid in the losers’ plate. The side, however, were quite aggressive during their last few matches in the friendlies, having been rendered winners over opponents like Huracan Valencia 2-1, Almeria 2-0, and Albacete 4-1.

Valladolid were placed last season in the lower mid-table; whereas Villarreal sat almost at the top of the Segunda Division’s rankings last term—hence the promotion. By their recent prowess in the pitch, it is pretty clear that Villarreal will land in online betting sites’ mound of favorites. The match may conclude in a 2-1 final tally, in favor of the last-mentioned squad.
