Espanyol are barely holding on to their top ten position, made even harder by the less-than-satisfying performances they displayed against Barcelona 0-1 and Sevilla 4-1 most recently. Of their past five matches, the side were only able to score a goal four times while conceding  seven. They are now level on points with Levante (40) but rank lower due to a smaller goal difference.

Rayo Vallecano have completely veered away from the drop zone after firing some gorgeous stunts in the last seven La Liga weeks. If not for the loss they incurred from Real Madrid (which of course, was very difficult to avoid), Los Franjirrojos could have already overtaken Malaga in the 11th spot. With the current trend, Paco Jémez’s men will likely continue bagging good results.

Online betting tip: Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano will share the spoils.

Athletic Bilbao vs. Malaga

Match Date: 14 April 2014 (local)

Match Venue: San Mamés

Athletic Bilbao may no longer be able to switch places with the top three title chasers (Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid) but they remain among the strongest clubs this season. Their berth for the Champions League play-offs is almost sealed, but they still have to strive hard to protect their position as Sevilla are fast emerging from the race. Resilience has always been Los Leones’ most outstanding attribute, although they are also excellent in attacking set pieces, protecting the lead, and dueling in the air.

Malaga were among the weakest at the start of the season, but are now enjoying a safe spot in the mid-table following rigorous (and quite successful) attempts at turning their form around. From their past six matches alone, Los Boquerones already picked up 12 points—six of which were from two clean sheets. Bernd Schuster’s men continue making good disciplines in both their attack and defense, which would be key to their ascent towards the top half.

Football betting tip: This match will see Athletic Bilbao narrowly win over Malaga.
