Updated: February 26, 2014

Match Date: 02 March 2014 (local)

March Venue:  Estadio El Madrigal

Moi Gomez and Jeremy Perbet were El Submarino Amarillo’s key bullets to fire a victory against Espanyol. The players scored two goals in the first and second halves, respectively, with the latter’s inning cancelled by Cordoba to deny Marcelino García Toral’s side of earning a clean sheet. Regardless, the victory lifted Villarreal above Real Sociedad whom they are level on points with but took the lead by way of goal difference.

Overall team form suggests a reliable future for Villarreal. The troupe are adequately skilled in many important pitch disciplines. These include shooting from direct free kicks, creating opportunities, attacking down the wings, and most importantly, finishing scoring chances.

Real Betis

The Beticos remain cursed of settling in the bottom as they were again defeated in a league fixture. Athletic Bilbao inflicted a 2-0 misery on Gabriel Calderón’s men when they met at the Estadio Benito Villamarín on weekend. The defeat was particularly heartbreaking because they were denied of two penalties and controversially punished with a spot-kick for their visitors. Iker Muniain opened the scoring in the first half from 12 yards and Guillermo Fernandez doubled the lead in second period.

Real Betis should be more careful of the error-prone zones and of individual misfortunes. They clearly do not have any substantial strength that they can reliably capitalize on, so they need to be more adept at upholding teamwork and effective communication.

Sports betting tip: The obvious winners, Villarreal will convert the most chances and dwarf Real Betis in overall scores. The hosts are on track to attaining their 14th league win this season.
