Villarreal’s goalless draw with Sevilla did very little impact on their form and table ranking. The side entered into the battle a few places behind the second-mentioned team and Real Sociedad, which did not change after their brawl against the Sevillistas. Nevertheless, El Submarino Amarillo are already ensured of seeding in the Europa League next season as they are seven points clear of their nearest rivals with only two more matches remaining in La Liga.

Marcelino García Toral’s men have remained fantastic in terms of stealing the ball and keeping it within their possession. They have also improved quite well in converting chances into goals. However, they would need more robust caution during aerial duels as they often fail to show promising displays in the air. They also fall short of mechanisms in protecting the lead, shunning dangerous areas, and most importantly avoiding offside.

Rayo’s chance at securing berth in La Liga’s next season, meanwhile, was even more hampered by a serious 3-0 downfall they incurred from Athletic Bilbao. The goalless defeat stretched their already-appalling goal difference to much more undesirable number. Their defense did not work very well against the Champions League aspirants and goalkeeping from Ruben proved horrendous.

Resilience is what Rayo are most known for, but even in this area, they show very little reliability that should be enough to comfort their supporters. Their defensive faculties are their worst attributes, which largely hinder them from correctly defending counter attacks, managing set pieces, and preventing their opponents from creating scoring chances.

Football betting tip: Villarreal will earn all three points.
