Match Date: 19 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Estadio El Madrigal

Seated on a comfortable position in La Liga, Villarreal has only the league’s fiercest clubs serving as their biggest threats. They could have the control over the majority of their opponents, although extreme caution and preparation are still necessary to defend their placement. Complacency is a no-no at this crucial stage of the competition, as it will largely destroy their form and take them out of their present glory.

El Submarino Amarillo have what it takes to be among Spain’s absolute football superpowers (although they have often been among the country’s best clubs).  Their sharp sensibilities in the pitch, particularly in the resiliency department, were key ingredients in their magnificent current form. Additionally, they have the superb knack for creating and finishing scoring chances and defending set pieces. What they still need to work much harder on, however, is their performance in the air.

The Andalusians’ short-lived unbeaten streak (three matches) was effectively axed when they met up with Athletic Bilbao. The clash ended in harshly for Almeria, submitting to their opponents in a horrible position. Bilbao trounced the side with six goals achieved and only one conceded. If not for Helder Barbosa’s 34th minute equalizer, Almeria could have been defeated by a clean sheet by their rivals. The downfall is the squad’s 10th this season, depriving them of a set of points and letting them stay with another week in the table’s bottom quarter (but still out of the relegation zone).

Almeria’s capacities are quite okay when they are in clash with lower-to-midtable clubs (as per recent matches). High-quality opponents are a different story, and they often plummet to rock bottom when they are tasked to face these powerhouses. While they are indeed resilient warriors, their fighting spirit is yet to lead them in an absolutely impressive position.

Football betting tip: Facing players who are several spots above them, Almeria may fail to finish this battle to their favor. Villarreal’s tactics are apparently more advanced than their opposition’s, which means that a home victory is not a distant possibility in this duel.
