La Liga Match Preview: Valencia vs. Levante

Updated: January 2, 2014

Match Date: 04 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue:  Estadio Mestalla

Valencia incurred dismaying year-end results for La Liga, succumbing to nemeses such as Atletico Madrid 3-0 and Real Madrid 2-3. These were at the back of an otherwise massive victory over Osasuna, where a clean sheet topped their home record. Thus far, the squad have already picked up 20 points from all their matches this season, ranking 11th in the league table, narrowly behind Malaga.

Valencia’s last match for 2013 (against Real Madrid) could have ended in appositive note for the team, except that it did not after Madrid substitute Jese Rodriguez delivered a late winner to cancel out the scoring. The sides were level by the 62nd minute, with Valencia successfully firing an equalizer on Madrid’s every score. However, in the match’s dying minutes, the opponents finally secured all the three points when Rodriguez positioned an angled drive that squirmed past Valencia’s goalkeeper’s hands at the near post.

Levante failed to cap their 2013 streak with an optimistic finish, after conceding three goals to and incurring a defeat from Atletico Madrid 3-2. Nevertheless, they still rank above the relegation zone. They are in fact, level on overall score with three other clubs—Malaga, Valencia, and Granada—at 20 points. They are placed 13th in the table, after obtaining the worst goal difference from the cluster.

In their bout against Atletico, Levante were given several chances to convert, but still failed to end the battle in a winning note. Andres Ivanschitz opened the scoring, but this was twice subdued by Atletico until Pedro Rios scored an equalizer. By the 77th minute, the opponents nodded for victory when Diego Costa volleyed for a penalty.

Football betting tip: Valencia and Levante are pinned on an almost equal footing, which suggests that their upcoming battle will be stormed by a rigorous and tight encounter. Plenty of opportunities will be made in this clash, but the result will eventually unveil a deadlock.
