Updated: February 26, 2014

Match Date: 02 March 2014 (local)

March Venue:  Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Sevilla were still able to carry the day as they went home victorious from a 1-0 beating at Rayo Vallecano. Defender Jorge Andújar “Coke” Moreno headed in the only goal of the meeting in the 58th minute and the Rayo side failed to effectively respond, often losing good chances that were offered right in front their feet. This marked Unai Emery’s men’s very first success in seven attempts and helped them climb in the table from number nine to seven. Their current record stands at W9-D8-L8.

Real Sociedad

Although Barca top brass Leo Messi was able to pull off an equalizer, it was already too late for his team to seize the silverware as Real Sociedad have already created too much damage. The sides met at Anoeta on weekend to nail a display of breathtaking exchanges. Txuri-urdin took the lead in the 32nd minute with a hapless own goal from Alexandre Song. This, however, was canceled four minutes later by a clinical strike from Messi. In the second half, Jagoba Arrasate’s men became more aggressive which eventually yielded them additional two goals from Griezmann and Zurutura to finish the scoring at 3-1. This helped the hosts extend their wins to a dozen and rank in the top six, above Sevilla but below Villarreal.

Sports betting tip: With both of the sides very successful in their most recent league fixtures, Sevilla and Real Sociedad could well end their meeting in a stalemate. Expect the squads fire a series of equalizers.
