Real Madrid

Having had to shoulder immense pressure of winning over Getafe after fellow frontrunners Atletico Madrid and Barcelona won their respective matches the day before, the side shrugged off the stress as they were able to inflict a 3-0 defeat on their fixture opponents. Thanks to the spectacular scoring performances of Jese, Karim Benzema, and Luka Modric, Los Blancos managed to stay level on points with Barca and Los Colchoneros at the top of the table, knocked out of the summit by their Catalan opponents only by goal difference.

Madrid remain the only top-flight team to have not lost a game in 2014 and are running a 26-match unbeaten streak in all competitions since their match with Sevilla on October last year. The very solid form is enough to keep their pace up with their strongest rivals.

While they may enjoy a third consecutive match without a defeat, Elche have suffered a goalless result once in that same streak. They earned a clean sheet at Almeria two weekends ago but have only drawn with Real Valladolid 2-2 and Osasuna 0-0 in their subsequent tourneys. They currently rank at number 13, five points clear of the drop zone but 14 points behind of the crucial top six.

Los Franjiverdes’s most recent battle (with Osasuna) was marred by a shortage of scoring chances, although goalkeeper Toño should be lauded for an excellent job at saving their opponents’ goals. They remain poor at protecting the lead and in conversion, but their ability to defend set pieces could be their key to obtain slight advantage over their nemeses.

Football betting tip: There is hardly a reason why this battle will not end in favor of Real Madrid. The side are so much more in form than Elche and their scoring skills are nowhere near their opponents’ reach.
