Rayo Vallecano

Rayo Vallecano were pulled down further in the table’s foot with an away defeat they incurred from equally struggling side, Elche 2-0. The loss came after the side was reduced to 10 men as Raul Baena was shown a red card for toppling Coro in the area, and Edu Albacar opening the scoring for the hosts. Rayo manager Paco Jemez was very cautious of not letting his men commit errors again and capitalized on a strong defense to avert their opponents from netting a goal. The side managed to do this for the rest of the first period but 11 minutes before full-time, Javi Marquez doubled the lead to secure an Elche victory.

Prior to the aforesaid match, Franjirrojos toppled Getafe and had high hopes that they could get out of the relegation zone with Elche as their next prey. But instead, they slid five points behind Los Franjiverdes, who picked up picked up the crucial points to move up to the 15th spot.

Atletico Madrid

With a 1-1 draw at Sevilla, Atletico Madrid stretched their unbeaten run (in all competitions) to 19 matches. Their most recent performance may be considered below-par compared to their usual displays, but the singular point they picked up from that fixture was enough to make them level on points with table leaders, Barcelona. Both clubs have now breached the 51-point mark, with Barca only ahead by goal difference.

Los Colchoneros flaunt a very impressive league record of 16 wins, three draws, and only one defeat. Diego Simeone would be more eager to send back his troupe to the top with their next rivals struggling with inconsistency and their form soon to outlast the defending champions.

Online betting tip: To be beaten by fellow strugglers was already an indicator that Rayo Vellecano are losing their traction in the increasingly overwhelming Spanish top-flight league. With derby arch-enemy and powerhouse Atletico Madrid as their next rivals, reaching for a win has just gotten more elusive. Expect the visitors slam their hosts in a wide margin, perhaps a clean sheet.
