La Liga Match Preview: Osasuna vs. Espanyol

Updated: January 2, 2014

Match Date: 05 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Estadio El Sadar

Paving their way back to the relegation zone, Osasuna should pick up better points in their next fixtures. The draws they obtained from Real Madrid and Celta deVigo were not necessarily bad, but they were not enough to free them completely from the league table’s most dangerous area. A draw is simply not an option in this point of the competition. Victory is a must.

Compared to their earlier showings, Osasuna have improved quite considerably in their latest performances. New coach Javi Gracia is doing a good job on his team, but not yet the caliber that the side’s supporters would want to witness. There is a long road ahead, but Osasuna are absolutely not deprived of another ticket to La Liga next season.

Inconsistency plays a major role in Espanyol’s relatively insecure streak. Especially in their last five matches, the side made it harder for themselves to barge at least into the top five. Of that streak, they won twice, got defeated twice as well, and forced a draw once. Their current record stands at W6-D4-L7, with total points of 22 and a rank at number eight.

In their last match, Espanyol somehow revitalized their counter-attacking skills. They overthrew Real Valladolid on a two-goal difference. The four goals they scored in the fixture were proof of the side’s intense pressing and determination to strengthen their offense. Sergio Garcia and Victor Sanchez netted one goal apiece, while Cristhian Stuani scored twice.

Online betting tip: While Espanyol might appear to have the upper hand in this match-up, Osasuna have an attacking reserve that is enough to cancel out any goal that their opponents would fire. A stalemate should therefore be expected from this encounter.
