It was a stunning surprise from Getafe to battle out level against title chasers Barcelona 2-2. A brace by Angel Lafita, with emphasis on his dramatic late winner, proved disastrous for Barca whose campaign for championship is constantly being challenged by their closest rivals, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. Lionel Messi opened the scoring and Alexis Sanchez also scored for Barcelona—both equalized by the sprightly Lafita.

The three points were very vital for Azulones’ survival in La Liga as they are at high risk of relegation. The win narrowly helped them escape the drop zone but they would need more productive displays in the season’s remaining matches in order to fully secure safety.

Sevilla FC

In spite of a labored battle, Sevilla did very little to increase their score, drawing only against Villarreal on a goalless tourney at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. However, the deadlock does not necessarily place the side on a dangerous spot in the league rankings; in fact, they actually sit atop the Europa League places. Now topped with 60 points, the Sevillistas are three points above Real Sociedad and are almost certain of a fifth-place finish by the league’s completion.

The stalemate would count as Sevilla’s first non-losing result in three attempts, after they incurred back-to-back defeats from Althletic Club 3-1 in the Spanish top-tier football and Valencia 3-1 in the Europa League.

Football betting tip: Getafe and Sevilla will battle out a low-scoring draw.
