La Liga Match Preview: Getafe vs. Rayo Vallecano

Updated: January 6, 2014

Match Date:  11 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Coliseum Alfonso Perez

Even at home, Getafe still struggle with inconsistency. Their last nine home matches in La Liga were subject to fluctuations: winning in four occasions, drawing twice, and defeated three times. While they are still a few points clear of relegation, the side need more impressive displays in order for them to climb higher in the table.

A fragile defense on their set pieces makes it harder for Getafe to earn substantial wins. They are also on the rocks when it comes to defending the lead, shielding against long shots, and keeping possession of the ball. Nevertheless, they have an impressive reserve of aerial stunts.

Rayo Vallecano

Rayo perform quite horribly on the road, as evidenced by their very poor away streak. Weeks 2 and 4 were their most embarrassing away fixtures, conceding five goals on both occasions and scoring none. Since the season opened, the side have only won twice in all of their outings, which they achieved when they fought against Almeria 0-1 and Celta 0-2.

There are three areas in which Rayo are poorly skilled at: outlasting opponents’ best players, defending counter attacks, and veering away from creating individual errors. Apart from these, they are also deprived of abilities necessary to finish scoring chances and defend against attacks down the wings. Fortunately, Paco Jémez’s men are very well equipped to protect the lead and attack set pieces.

Online betting tip: Both of these sides manifest unpredictability in performance. Getafe have awkward approach at home while Rayo are baffling outside their territory. Hence, this match is likely to conclude in a draw.
