La Liga Match Preview: Elche vs. Sevilla

Updated: January 9, 2014

Match Date: 11 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Martínez Valero

With the absence of Lionel Messi, Elche could have gotten a shot to boost their chance of winning over Barcelona, the league’s current leaders. However, they forgot that their rival club are not a ‘one-man’ ensemble and is actually besieged by other equally talented players. In their match on weekend, Barca’s Alexis Sanchez bulked up his faculties and awarded his team with three of the four goals their netted in the tourney. Elche fell to their knees as they went home empty-handed.

Scoring three defeats in a row, including a 0-1 home finish at the Copa del Rey, Los Franjiverdes are losing their motivation to step up their game. They are La Liga’s current 16th placers, largely at risk into tumbling down the relegation zone which is only one point away.

After slamming Getafe 3-0 at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Sevilla have earned a few more points to send themselves into the league’s higher reaches. The current top seven placers are counting a sixth unbeaten match in the Spanish top-tier football, of which five went victorious and the remainder posted a thrilling draw. The side are improving dramatically when playing outside their own court, as evidenced by the three consecutive victories they earned in their most recent away tourneys.

The Sevillistas’ key skill is their knack for attacking set pieces. They are also very well endowed when it comes to creating long shot opportunities and in finishing scoring chances. Thus far, they have already scored 35 goals and conceded 29, bringing in a goal difference of +6. Their record stands at W8-D5-L5.

Football betting tip: Sevilla are a clear favorite to win this joist over Elche. The squad’s improving form and apparent pitch agility are enough indicators of their domination over their opponents.
