La Liga Match Preview: Elche vs. Celta Vigo

Updated: February 25, 2014

Match Date: 01 March 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Martínez Valero

While it was predicted that Elche will not get past Real Madrid’s score, their defeat turned out more devastating than expected. The guests were mauled by the hosts on a 3-0 clean sheet, incurring a three-point deficit in their record and causing them to remain in the lower mid-table. Gareth Bale fired a brilliant long-range goal which served as a follow up to Illarramendi’s equally stunning opener. Isco hit a third few minutes before full-time and sealed a crucial victory to top the rankings and keep the pressure on championship rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Los Franjiverdes do well at defending set pieces, but it is in finishing scoring chances that they should put more attention on. Similarly, they have problems in the offside, fall short of aerial duel tactics, and display fragile shield against long shots.

Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo made sure that their opponents, Getafe, will remain at high risk of plummeting in the drop zone by holding them in a draw at the Estadio de Balaídos on weekend. While the visitors were able to open the scoring in the first half (as well as dominating that period) via Lafita, the Luis Enrique side guaranteed that no more than one point will go to Getafe by the end of the face-off. That said, Rafinha fired a 59th minute equalizer to put things into a deadlock. Superb goalkeeping by Yoel also placed most attempts from the Azulones at bay.

Os Célticos currently rank just outside the top half, with total earnings of 30 points and a goal difference of -4. They are at least 13 points short to obtain sure seeding in the Europa League.

Sports betting tip: Elche and Celta Vigo are up for a thrilling clash. Expect this match to be explosive, with both sides to score equal number of goals.
