Updated: February 18, 2014

Match Date: 22 February 2014 (local)

Match Date: Estadio Balaídos

Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo shipped a fourth week without a defeat as they inflicted a disaster to Villarreal. The match initially lacked goals from both sides, even ending the first half in a goalless deadlock. Defenses from the squads were on point and goalkeepers Juan Carloas and Yoel were more than ready to save goals. In the second period, however, events turned and the energy picked up, especially for Os Célticos. Fabian Orellana fired a goal in the 83rd minute to put Luis Enrique’s troupe in the lead. And as if the late rally was still not enough to secure the victory, Nolito doubled the lead exactly in the 90th minute, thus concluding the battle in a two-goal clean sheet by the visitors.

Celta Vigo are currently ranked at the 11th spot, eight points clear of the drop zone but are still 11 points behind the top six. While their position in the league is now relatively safe, they still need to win their subsequent matches in order to secure another berth in the next season of La Liga.

Real Madrid strove to keep themselves up in the top three at the expense of Getafe. The sides’ most recent fixture rendered the hosts ill-fated after they were trounced by their visitors on a clean sheet and slid three places in the table. They are now at number 16, with total points of 25 and a goal difference of -17.

Azulones may be consistent in attacking set pieces, but they are appallingly poor at defending them. They are also good in aerial duels, but find inadequacies in finishing scoring chances and protecting counter attacks.

Online betting tip: Celta Vigo and Getafe’s last four meetings gave the sides two victories apiece, making them equal on certain criteria. Expect this battle to end in a stalemate.
