La Liga Match Preview: Barcelona vs. Almeria

Match Venue: Estadio Camp Nou

The trip to the Anoeta was rather frustrating for Barcelona who were thrashed by the hosts on a nearly goalless result. As expected, Messi scored, but it was only him who gave a light of hope for Barca and he did it only once. In contrast, Real Sociedad achieved three goals—two of which came from Griezmann and Zurutura and one was an own goal by Song.

Barcelona headed into the fixture with enough inspiration from a midweek 2-0 Champions League triumph at Manchester City, but this clearly did not show in their clash with the Basque outfit. In effect, Gerardo Martino’s side have fallen three points behind arch rivals Real Madrid at the table’s summit.

At-risk Almeria and Malaga shared a goalless draw at the Juegos Mediterraneos on weekend, frustrating both sides of an attempt to earn all the spoils and emerge a few spots clear of the relegation zone. The stalemate received only lukewarm reception from coach Francisco Rodríguez as he has hoped for a win which is crucial to the side’s survival, especially at this specific stage of the tournament. They rank 15th overall and are only four points above the red line.

Football betting tip: Barcelona have almost every reason to win this battle over Almeria. This fixture could be their best way to redeem themselves and gain back the top position.
