Match Date: 02 March 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Vicente Calderon

Atletico Madrid

A surprise battering by Osasuna on weekend was an absolute embarrassment for title frontrunners Atletico Madrid. This would perhaps, be considered as one of the most surprising moments of the season, especially that the once-relegation candidates Osasuna are now climbing up fast the table with a highly impressive 3-0 win at Diego Simeone’s men.

The match’s first half was almost breathless, toppling easy challenge for Atletico to win over their opponents after the hosts dominated the period with goals from Alvaro Cejudo and Emiliano Armenteros. The damages could have been abated if not for a panicky defense and a careless goalkeeping by Atletico. The second period showed slight recovery for the visitors but Osasuna fought fiercely that they obtained another goal via Roberto Torres and inflicted an unforeseen defeat to the potential champions.

Los Colchoneros are currently level on points with Barcelona with 60, but rank lower due to a smaller goal difference. They are three points behind table leaders and archrivals Real Madrid.

Real Madrid

Gareth Bale has shown one of his best performances this season as a memeber of Real Madrid in the side’s recent match against Elche, scoring a brilliant long-range shot that served as a follow up to Asier Illaramendi’s first-half opener. Isco made it 3-0 with 10 minutes remaining. The success did not only add pressure to title chasers Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, but it also helped them reclaim the top of table and reign supreme of their rivals with three points making the margin.

Los Blancos remain unbeaten (in all competitions) for 27 matches now, earning clean sheets 15 times and obtaining draw only four times.

Football betting tip: Atletico Madrid will either lose their confidence due to their unexpected defeat or earn motivation to retaliate even if it means engaging in a very difficult clash with Real Madrid. With both sides showing strong zeal to win, this derby could result in a stalemate.
