What was supposed to be dominated by Atletico boiled down into a major blow to the side’s title aspiration. The side were beaten by Levante 2-0 which gave championship rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid a much more spacious room for a La Liga domination. The loss came just behind a successful Chelsea thumping for the Champions League finals.

With Barca’s surprise home draw with Getafe, Los Colchoneros thought they would ultimately run away the silverware on a sure circumstance. Problem is, it did not go well as planned. A first-half own goal from Filipe Luis saw Atletico incur disgrace which was later further deepened by a decisive goal from Levante’s David Barral. The Diego Simeone side still rank atop the table, though.

Malaga’s place in La Liga’s next season is sealed; this is despite of their loss to Elche at La Rosaleda. Garry Rodrigues carried out a massive strike to deliver the only goal scored in the battle.

Bernd Schuster’s squad were off to a solid start and could have taken the lead had Sergi Darder’s long-range thunderbolt positioned properly. Their opponents were reduced to 10 men after Botia was shown a red card, but still, they failed to take advantage of the opportunity and succumbed to Elche. The defeat counts as Los Boquerones’ 17th this season.

Football betting tip: Atletico Madrid will bounce back with a victory over Malaga.
