Match Date:  11 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Vicente Calderon

Atletico Madrid

Undefeated for 15 consecutive matches (in all competitions), Atletico Madrid are heavily empowered to seize the much-sought leadership in the Spanish top-flight league. The side’s clean sheet from Malaga was their ninth this season, proving yet again the kind of monsters they are in the turf. Atletico may have struggled to create chances, but coach Diego Simeone has fired a winning mentality that they did just enough to take all the spoils home with them.

Flaunting a record of 16 wins, one draw, and just one defeat, Atletico Madrid are now level on points with Barcelona—the latter dominating the bunch only for a greater goal difference.

Barcelona

Determined to defend their title, Barcelona successfully edged out Atletico Madrid in their short reign atop the league table. Barca’s win over Elche helped them level the score of their Madrid rivals at 49 points. But being able to seize a much higher goal difference, Barcelona still managed to remain in the highest position. The victory, which was noted for Neymar and Messi’s absence, sailed smoothly under Alexis Sanchez’s sprightly performance. Sanchez earned a hat-trick for his team, with Pedro’s goal in the 16th minute completing the 4-0 clean sheet.

While the win over Elche was manageable even with the side’s top players sidelined, it cannot completely determine their fate in their next battle—which will be against the highly fervent Atletico Madrid.

Football betting tip: Needless to say, this match will be among the season’s highlights. The results will polarize supporters, and exchanges of massive displays will break records. In a fixture where both sides are equally very convincing, in-form, and aggressive, a deadlock is a highly plausible finish.
