Athletic Bilbao

Bilbao’s clean record at home was put to an end as Espanyol inflicted them with a 1-2 defeat. Resilient and always ready for retaliation, Los Leones then made sure that their next battle will end under their control and prevent another embarrassment from happening. And so they did after they blew up Betis’ frustration even deeper with a heartbreaking 2-0 defeat at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Iker Muniain put Bilbao on the lead in the first half from 12 yards and Damien Perquis was sent off just before the break. Lolo Reyes then joined him in the bench in the second period after picking up two bookings, and forward Guillermo Fernandez delivered a stunning goal nine minutes into full-time to decide the winner and complete a despondent afternoon for Gabriel Calderon’s men.

Granada nearly earned all three points from their brawl against Valencia if not for a decisive Vezo late effort. Granada opened the scoring in the second half via Piti after Javi Fuego committed an error. The hosts fired an equalizer in the 64th minute through Paco Alcacer’s goal, which was later doubled late in the fixture when Ruben Vezo was able to escape El Grana goalkeeper Roberto’s save.

Lucas Alcaraz have plenty of things to do (and repair) for him to keep his men above the drop zone. They are currently placed in the 13th spot, and may dwindle if they fail to make sizable adjustments in finishing scoring chances and managing aerial duels.

Online betting tip: Granada have four men sidelined, while Athletic Bilbao have three. As per past meetings, the sides are nearly equal with each winning twice and drawing once in their last five face-offs. Bilbao’s overall form, however, is much more reliable than Granada’s. Expect a narrow-scoring home victory from this battle.
