While Sunderland’s season debut was not too glossy to be happy about, their point-seizing draw was far much better than what Manchester United have achieved, so far. The latter were surprisingly beaten in their first EPL match this season, to the dismay of almost everyone who roots for the squad.

Sunderland’s season opener was not necessarily bad. They earned one point from drawing with West Bromwich which eventually placed them in the mid-table for the English top-flight’s first week. The four-goal spectacle was a showcase of attacking prowess from both sides: Saido Berahino scored a brace for West Brom while Lee Cattermole and Sebastian Larsson netted one goal apiece for The Black Cats. However, the result has extended Gus Poyet’s men’s drought for victory in three matches, following their defeat to Nacional and their stalemate with Vitoria Setubal in their pre-season friendlies. It was, however, a slight improvement to their last league match in the previous season, when they ended their campaign with a home loss to Swansea City 1-3.

Manchester United

Louis van Gaal might have to rethink his 3-4-3 formation for his new club, Manchester United, as it did appalling poor for the side’s season debut. The Red Devils were trounced in their very own stadium by Swansea City for the first time in several decades. It was a major embarrassment for the team, but more so to Louis van Gaal who made impressive pre-season results only to be defeated in the main top-flight league. This might suggest that United have not yet found the right top brass to replicate their glorious years under Sir Alex Ferguson. Last season, David Moyes failed to put the former champions at least in the sixth spot and were therefore denied of any berth in the UEFA tournaments. As for Van Gaal, the tournament has just started and there is still a big room for improvement. He must deliver in their subsequent fixtures and prove that the trust people bestowed upon him will not go to waste.

Football betting tip: Manchester United will fire an effective retaliation by inflicting Sunderland with a defeat.
