Premier League Match Preview: Sunderland vs. Hull City

Updated: February 5, 2014

Match Date: 08 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stadium of Light

Sunderland’s bid to fly out of the relegation zone is gradually being granted, more so now that they are running eight straight winning matches from all competitions, with their best (thus far) display being their mauling of Newcastle United via clean sheet. The Black Cats’ win was secured by first-period goals from Fabio Borini and Adam Johnson, with Jack Colback’s late strike sealing the 3-0 finish.

Current standings place Sunderland at number 14, two points clear of relegation and three points short of entering the top 10. Out of 24 matches, they have already netted 25 goals and conceded 36.

Hull City

Hull’s past five matches in all competitions only gave them one victory. The picture is much worse when their fixtures in the Premier League are the only ones to be considered, succumbing to four of their rivals and sharing points with one. They currently rank at number 13, scoring 24 points and earning a goal difference of -7.

In their most recent top-tier match, The Tigers obtained their very first point for 2014 after they forced a draw with Tottenham 1-1. Shane Long opened the scoring for the hosts in the 12th minute, while Paulinho delivered an equalizer for the visitors a minute after the hour.

Football betting tip: Sunderland have the better recent form than Hull City, but overall records indicate both sides to have an almost equal traction. Expect this match to end in a deadlock.
