Stoke City and Aston Villa were six places apart last season, but neither of them earned seeding to the UEFA tournaments. The former ranked ninth while the latter were marooned at number 15.

Stoke City

The 2013-14 season was a generally okay campaign for Stoke, although it was not a complete spectacle on most counts. The side won 13 times but were beaten more frequently (14 times). They have also drawn with other clubs a total of 11 times. Overall, they scored 50 points and netted 45 goals.

The Potters’ mediocre league season seems to have extended towards their pre-season friendlies. Stoke only managed to win once in their seven most recent non-competitive matches; two of which were defeats while the rest were deadlocks.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa suffered a series of poor decisions and appalling results last season, causing them to plummet in the league table as far as the 15th spot. They were only five points clear of the relegation zone by the end of the season and while it sounded comforting enough, it could not hide the lackadaisical performance they gave off the last term. Overall, they recorded 10 wins, eight draws, 20 losses, 39 goals scored, and 61 goals conceded. This streak apparently shows the side’s weakness in the defense.

In preparation for the new top-flight season, The Villans engaged in seven club friendlies, where they won four times (against Mansfield Town, Dallas, Houston Dynamo, and Walsall), held in a draw once (by Parma), and defeated twice (versus Chesterfield and Groningen).

Football betting tip: Stoke City and Aston Villa will battle out a goalless draw.
