Southampton and QPR did not play in the same football league last season, with the former in the top-flight competition and the latter in the League Championship. Their most recent battles were in the 2012-13 season, when both squads earned one win apiece from their two-legged meeting.

Southampton are having one of the best times of their lives as they have been very astonishing in the past few weeks in all their matches, whether in Premier League or the League Cup. Currently ranked second (to Chelsea) in the English top-flight football, the squad are the breakthrough team of the current season—certifiably so as they landed in the relegation zone a few times last season. While they opened their new season campaign with a loss to Liverpool, they nevertheless managed to pull off successes against West Ham, Newcastle United, and Swansea City. They have already scored nine goals since the tournament opened. At the League Cup this month, they inflicted Arsenal with a 1-2 home loss to the surprise of analysts and The Gunners’ fans.

Marooned in the bottom zone, QPR will need a major restructuring of their game plan as their current strategy is obviously not working well to their end. Not counting their clean sheet triumph against Sunderland, the squad have been underperforming since the opening of the season. In their past five matches, they have already lost three times and were held by their rivals once. Barging into the top 10 would be a very tough challenge for The Hoops.

Online betting tip: Southampton will broadly take the lead over QPR.
