Liverpool v Stoke City - Premier League

Match Date: 01 March 2014 (local)

Match Venue:  The Friends Provident St Mary’s Stadium

To fall prey of relegation currently sounds improbably for Southampton who are now securing a safe spot in the top half. However, this does not mean they could sail through the table’s higher reaches on a smooth sea especially that they are yet to confront some of the league’s fiercest clubs. Their most recent fixture is a proof to this, when they succumbed to West Ham United and conceded three goals. This resulted in their rivals booking a fourth straight win in the tournament while they incurred their first away defeat in four weeks. The Saints’ home record is similarly unreliable, showing three defeats from their last seven home tourneys.

Liverpool stretched their unbeaten Premier League run to an eighth week as they trounced Swansea City on a thrilling 4-3 fixture at Anfield on weekend. Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge netted two goals apiece, which were enough to overshadow Shelvey’s solo and Bony’s double for The Jacks. The match was also record-breaking for Sturridge, as he became only the second player in Premier League history to score in eight consecutive games.

Liverpool are still at the fringes of the Champions League spots, but are only one point shy of leveling with third-placers Manchester City. By goal difference, however, they have the second best figure at 35—seven and 10 goals more than Chelsea and Arsenal, respectively, but seven goals short of The Citizens.

Sports betting tip: Southampton’s inconsistency problem has to be addressed immediately especially now that the season is already drawing to a close. Liverpool could capitalize on this weakness of their rivals, and a strongly disciple ensemble could just make winning even more plausible for them.
