Match Venue: Carrow Road

Norwich City

The Cannaries broke their eight-week winless run (in all competitions) with a stunning clean sheet against Hull City. A late header from defender Ryan Bennett moved Norwich five points clear of the relegation zone , thrashing 10-man Hull on a one-goal lead.

The three points earned from the battle was crucial to the side, but more so to manager Chris Hughton who was given a caveat that he could retain his position for as long as his men will manage to stay away from the bottom zone. The win would have been a relief for the under-pressure boss, with a rigorous set of changes he made to the side following the 3-0 FA Cup third round replay defeat at Fulham in midweek.

Newcastle United

A lousy return (from injury) of West Ham’s Andy Carroll was otherwise a silver lining to Newcastle United, after the player missed a glorious chance to equalize the scoring. The Magpies were put in a commanding position by the 33rd minute with the sprightly goals from Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy. However, Mike Williamson’s own goal in first-half extra time set up a more competitive second period.

With West Ham poised excellently to level the scoring, Carroll had the goal at his mercy after Stewart Downing put him on a good position but only to knock his attempt high over the crossbar. Carlton Cole similarly slaughtered the simplest of chances. A late goal by Cabaye—his second in the match—in injury time sealed the victory for Alan Pardew’s lads.

Sports betting tip: Winners of their respective latest matches, Norwich City and Newcastle United are sanguine at finishing their next battle in another victory. However, with both of the sides possessing the same zeal, it would be tough for them to thrash one another. Expect this battle to end in an attack-driven stalemate.
