Updated: February 10, 2014

Match Date: 11 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: The KC Stadium

Hull City

Steve Bruce unlocked new opportunities in his side as he was able lead his men to victory at strugglers Sunderland 2-0. Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic scored in the match with one goal apiece, the latter netting his first this season. Had it not been for goalkeeper Vito Mannone and the woodwork, The Tigers might have mauled more innings to set the clean sheet even more interesting.

The three points collected from their latest brawl helped them place in the top 11, earning total points of 27. There is not much to worry about Hull’s attack, though there is definitely something wrong with their defense. Incurring a goal difference of -5, the squad need much more skills in defending set pieces and in keeping possession of the ball.

Southampton stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches (or five in the Premier League) with a thrilling draw with Stoke City on weekend at St. Mary’s. The rain-stricken fixture made it hard for both sides to manage the ball, but the players were nevertheless able to find the net despite the uncomfortable pitch conditions. Southampton opened the scoring via Lambert but was equalized by Odemwingie in the 38th minute. All the goals were scored in the first half, with both Davis and Crouch finishing the first-period 2-2 tally. The Saints looked to have secured the winner in the second half, but Stoke’s agile defense kept the deadlock until full-time.

Current standings place Southampton at number nine, a far cry from their relegation placement from weeks ago. They have now earned total points of 36, and have successfully converted their negative goal difference into +7.

Football betting tip: With a more zealous appetite to score goals, Southampton could make this duel against Hull City their 10th league victory.
