Premier League Match Preview: Hull City vs. Chelsea

Updated: January 7, 2014

Match Date: 11 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: The KC Stadium

Hull City

Still showing naïve (but gradually improving) abilities when confronting powerhouse squads, Hull City have to obtain a much stronger traction in the competition in order to climb at least into the top five. In their most recent match against Liverpool, zero goals were seized. They started off quite well and were standing strong on their own feet for half an hour but, the moment they went behind, they became increasingly on the rocks as they tried to knock their opponents out of their stride. Their victory over Middlesbrough for the FA Cup was nevertheless important to help the side regain their confidence.

Despite some defeats his team incurred in the English top-tier football, Steve Bruce is still ecstatic over how his men have performed in the tournament. Their victory over Fulham 6-0 was a resounding success, not to mention the clean sheets they attained from Norwich, West Ham, and Sunderland.

Only two points separate Chelsea and Arsenal, and one point with Manchester City. The current third placers are fighting hard to recoup the top spot, with Eden Hazard and Oscar bagging massive goals to bring their team into the league’s plateau.  However, the pressure is much heavier on the side’s strikers. Of the 27 goals Chelsea netted this season from their top scorers, only six came from the forwards. Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres delivered three goals apiece. They need a larger share of the spotlight in order to fully exploit their potential.

José Mourinho’s team have already won in 13 matches out of 20 league fixtures. They forced a draw four times and were beaten three times. Overall, they have scored 38 goals and conceded 19.

Football betting tip: Chelsea’s position as a Premier League veteran poses a serious intimidation for newly promoted Hull City. Both sides have displayed very strong performances in their own rights, but in this clash, the visitors may hesitate to share all the spoils with the hosts. A winning Chelsea  should be expected.
