Fulham v West Ham United - Premier League

Match Date: 11 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Craven Cottage

Fulham

Fulham are now out of the relegation zone; thanks to the goals fired by Steven Sidwell and Dimitar Berbatov, the side won over West Ham United and added three more points to their overall score. The success comes behind the appalling defeat they incurred from Hull City, where they left the court deprived of goals whilst conceding six.

The Cottagers are ranked at number 15 after picking up 19 points from 20 Premier League fixtures. Meanwhile at the FA Cup, the side were held in a 1-1 draw by Norwich City, after Robert Snodgrass was able to equalize Darren Bent’s opener.

Although they are now a few steps away from the bottom, René Meulensteen’s men are still at risk of making upsets. Their very fragile defense could be a pull factor of their form, especially that they lack enough faculties to defend set pieces or counter attacks. They are also struggling to prevent their opponents from scoring. Nevertheless, they could still find hope in their insurmountable resilience.

Sunderland

Sunderland opened the New Year with a rather faulty start. Gabriel Agbonlahor of Aston Villa denied The Black Cats of a possible win after the striker scored the only goal in their face-off. Sunderland were outright unlucky in the match, especially after substitute Fabio Borini’s 52nd-minute equalizer (supposedly) was ruled out for offside. The defeat counts as the team’s 12th this season, and another low point for Gus Poyet’s men to settle in the league’s bottom.

Sunderland could be well-endowed of creating chances, but their inability to convert them into goals prevents them from truly making a marvelous scene in the English pitch. In addition, they struggle to deliver counter attacks and defend against long shots.

Online betting tip: Although none of these sides can be considered a superpower in the current rhythm of the Premier League, Fulham and Sunderland could still share the spoils in their battle. A low-scoring draw could be expected from this encounter.
