Premier League Match Preview: Arsenal vs. Sunderland

Updated: February 17, 2014

Match Date: 22 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Emirates Stadium

With zero goals scored and concluding their battle against Manchester United in a deadlock, Arsenal were denied of regaining the top spot to be pinned at number two behind new table leaders Chelsea. The clash rendered both sides unfulfilled as a few of their players wasted their chances to net a goal. Gunners captain Robin van Persie and United striker Olivier Giroud both had perfect opportunities to convert.

While being knocked out of the summit is certainly frustrating, placing second is completely not bad. The season is still several matches away, and gaining the lead once more is still very plausible for Arsène Wenger’s lads.

Stuck at 25 matches after their fixture with Manchester City was postponed due to bad weather, Sunderland had their hopes slightly tangled as they remained in the drop zone. They are only four points off the table’s foot but their score and goal difference are still not enough to send them to safety.

The Black Cats are yet to show noticeable impression to help them win Premier League fans’ hearts over, and more importantly, the competition. Their attack is mediocre at best while their ability to create chances seems unripe. At aerial duels, they are clearly weak and more so in defending against long shots.

Football betting tip: Arsenal have a clear advantage over Sunderland both in the attack and in the defense. The hosts may not need to exhaust all their strategies to conquer their visitors as their skills in managing through balls is enough to make them the eventual winners.
