Following the intriguing EURO 2012, the 21st Premier League’s transfer window is a hot topic among several football observers.  Noteworthy signings coming from Ligue 1 and Bundesliga are set to shape football predictions on the English top football league’s new season.

1. Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard

From: Lille OSC (France – Ligue 1)

To: Chelsea FC

Transfer Fee: est. €32 million

Chelsea has shopped Belgian superstar Eden Hazard out from Lille for a staggering price tag. Reputed as the best player during the last season of Ligue 1, Hazard became the main driver of Les Dogues and elevated the club into third place, with a season record of 22 goals and 16 assists. At only 20 years of age, he already promises a vast wealth of experience for The Blues, especially on the left side of the midfield.

2. Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud

From: Montpellier HSC (France – Ligue 1)

To: Arsenal FC

Transfer Fee: est. €13 million

Arsenal secured the services of Montpellier’s Olivier Giroud in a bid to prepare for an impending departure of star striker Robin van Persie. Giroud is an ideal replacement, given his all-around abilities as a striker and his impressive chance-to-goal ratio. Whereas a higher price tag may have been more suitable for him, fulfilling the fabled role of van Persie for The Gunners – if he leaves, will serve as a challenging yet rewarding honour.

3. Lukas Podolski

Lukas Podolski

From: FC Koln (Germany – 2 Bundesliga)

To: Arsenal FC

Transfer Fee: undisclosed

Arsenal may have well been preparing for van Persie’s departure by bringing in more prospects for the striker position. Former FC Koln striker Lukas Podolski is part of The Gunner’s options to improve their attack in the absence of their star striker. Having performed remarkably in Germany’s EURO 2012 squad, Podolski will serve his new club with the necessary attacking experience. His 18 goals in 31 appearances for relegated Koln provides for his solid record.

4. Shinji Kagawa

Shinji Kagawa

From: Borussia Dortmund (Germany – Bundesliga)

To: Manchester United FC

Transfer Fee: est. €12 million

A prominent force in Borussia Dortmund’s midfield, Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa left Die Borussen and came to terms with Manchester United. The Red Devils’ decision to sign Kagawa is a move consistent with the club’s need of a creative force in the midfield. His role as a central attacking midfielder will be a dynamic combination with Wayne Rooney’s centre-forward position.

5. Marko Marin

Marko Marin

From: Werder Bremen (Germany – Bundesliga)

To: Chelsea FC

Transfer Fee: est. €6.5 million

Midfielder Marko Marin inked a five-year contract with Chelsea as part of its bid to strengthen its midfield reserve. Although seen as a bench player for the moment, Marin has great potential to advance alongside the likes of prominent compatriots Mario Reus and Mesut Ozil. His transfer from Werder Bremen will give him a better opportunity to learn alongside The Blues’ pack of attacking prodigies.
