Match Previews: English Premier League (Week 17)

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool - Premier League

Liverpool vs. Cardiff City

Match Date: 21 December 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Anfield

Unbeaten for the last three weeks, and particularly very successful in their most recent match (against Tottenham Hotspur 0-5), Liverpool have amassed enough confidence to not debunk their hope for an absolute Premier League domination by the end of the tournament. They are presently ranked at number two, just two points behind Arsenal, with 33 goals scored and 17 conceded.

While they may expect a continued superb run in the league, the side are not without any mishap. Four players will be unavailable in their next meetings, which include Daniel Sturridge, Sebastian Coates, Jose Enrique, and team captain Steven Gerrard. Injury problems are rising, but Brendan Rodgers will be agile and wise enough to address this issue.

Cardiff City

Inconsistency remains a major culprit to Cardiff City’s form. Their last several matches have been a roller coaster ride, but with more falls than ascent. They have 17 points under their belt, but that figure is only four points clear of relegation. Ranked at number 15, the side need tremendous efforts to help them climb much higher in the table.

Malky Mackay will be looking to see his side return to winning ways in order for his men to loom above the bottom by a substantial margin. A win in this match will cause considerable relief, and the three points that will consequently be obtained could be significant enough for them to stay safe in the competition.

Football betting tip: Breaking into Liverpool’s walls would be a monstrous challenge for Cardiff City. This fixture may not show the best stunts of the season, but spectators should expect powerful slamming of the visitors by the hosts.

Crystal Palace vs. Newcastle United

Match Date: 21 December 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace

Chelsea were such a huge adversary that Crystal Palace failed to defeat them last weekend. The brave attempt to subdue one of the league’s frontrunners was fueled by an impressive streak in the two matches leading up to the meeting at Stamford Bridge. Crystal Palace have shown life under new coach Tony Pulis, but their defeat from Chelsea means that they still need so much preparation, brainstorming, and study in order to fully free them from the relegation zone. If they win their next battle, then they will finally get out of the bottom.

Newcastle United

Staying strong at number six, Newcastle United have already scored 21 goals since curtain raiser. However, despite the impressive number and safe ranking, they are periled by a negative goal difference. They have already conceded 22 goals from all their Premier League matches, and they can no longer afford to concede more.

The club’s least spectacular recent performance was their brawl against Swansea, where they scored zero innings and were thrashed by their opponents in a three-goal lead. But apart from this, Newcastle United’s newest rallies have so far been very good. They held Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United in a clean sheet, and drawn with Southampton on weekend.

Online betting tip: This match will potentially produce some unexpected turns of events. Newcastle United are the obvious favorites, but Crystal Palace can actually finish this fixture at least in a draw.
