English Premier League Team Review: Southampton

Southampton- Pelle

Southampton has nothing to be ashamed of after finishing on the 8th spot of the Premier League table. This has been its best finish since its promotion during the 2012-2013 season.

Clearly, the Saints has nowhere to go but up. Right after their inclusion in the top-flight league, the squad barely showed signs of going back to the Championship. Although they struggled in the 14th spot, the previous season showed that they have more surprises to offer.

Match to remember

Southampton’s 1-0 win over title contender, Liverpool surprised many of its supporters and online betting pundits. It also signaled their unprecedented rise in the Premier League.

Likewise, its 4-1 destruction of Hull City proved that Southampton is no pushover in the competition.  Looking back, it is a bit surprising to see the Saints to be a contender in the Europa League. However, they have defied the odds and proved all of their detractors wrong.

Match to forget

Southampton’s loss to Sunderland during the Capital One Cup wasted their chances of lifting a silverware during the season.

The Saints fell to the Black Cats again during the Premier League’s final leg.

The scene-stealers

Jay Rodriguez continued to impress at Southampton. He scored fifteen (15) goals during his thirty (30) appearances.

Likewise, defender Dejan Lovren has readily emerged as one of the club’s formidable defence wall. It is not surprising why Liverpool is desperate to get his signature.

Latest additions

Another striker shall grace St. Mary’s Stadium and he is Graziano Pelle. The poacher scored fifty (50) goals during his fifty-three (53) appearances at the Dutch club, Rotterdam and his addition will definitely bring more joy to the club.
