The Verdict: El Salvador Threatens USA’s CONCACAF’s Campaign

After clinching three (3) straight wins and topping Group C of CONCACAF’s qualifiers, USA continues its campaign for the final. But in order to do that, the squad must first try to outlast an equally determined and aggressive, El Salvador.

Indeed, the Stars and Stripes are now one of the heavy favorites to bring home the silverware. And why not? Jurgen Klinsmann and his men never lost in their three (3) encounters. They overwhelmed Belize with six (6) points and they thrashed Cuba with four (4). Among the three, Costa Rica was the only squad where they bled to win. Nevertheless, the match ended with a 1-0 down the wire victory.

Instrumental to USA’s triumphs is the scoring spree of Chris Wondolowski, Landon Donovan and just recently, Brek Shea. Klinsmann will most probably capitalize on this tandem when they meet El Salvador.

Meanwhile, as USA enjoys the scoring contributions of the three (3), Rodolfo Zelaya of El Salvador has been its sole scorer. Literally, La Selecta transformed into a one-man team. Nevertheless, this does not translate to the fact that USA can easily trample them.

Zelaya might be Augustin Castillo’s only hope, but this is nothing but temporary. Offensives alone hardly articulate a squad’s capabilities.

To note, La Selecta is on the 3rd spot of Group B. Yet, what is more noticeable is its zero (0) goal difference that speaks well of a balanced defence strategy and scoring attacks. And USA must carefully watch out for them. La Selecta may not be the favorites, but it is highly possible for them to cause an upset.

Under this match, the Red and Stripes might secure another victory. However, never expect it to be a total giveaway.
