The Verdict: USA Advances To The Quarterfinals

Both Cuba and USA are on top of CONCACAF’s Group C, with each team scoring six (6) points. Yet, between the two, USA, still, has the edge, if one has to consider the aggregate scores. The former has eight (8), whilst Cuba has four (4)—half of what Team USA has produced in the tournament.

Such scenario, no matter how trivial it looked like, gives a premonition of what can pretty much occur in the squad’s upcoming face-off—the red and stripes, stealing the spotlight from the Ticos.

First off, Chris Wondolowski has been sending earthquakes into the pitch. So far, the striker has been the tournament’s top scorer with a total of six (6) goals. He netted a hat trick against Belize and was one of the main players behind US’  come from behind win over Cuba.

Alongside with Wondo is Landon Donovan, who is just a goal behind Wondo. The combination of the two top scorers gives USA more flexibility when it comes to their attacking strategies. Instead of depending on a single player and stagnate, the squad can count on two (2) equally efficient players that could unleash an unexpected scoring rampage.

As for Costa Rica’s side, the latter can capitalize on that World Cup qualifier upset. CONCACAF is yet another great platform to put an end to the seemingly never-ending rivalry between the two squads.

However, Cuba’s performance in the World Cup qualifier, somehow, provided the blueprint of how USA can trample them.

In this match, there is no doubt, why USA is the heavy favorite.
